About the Cocker Spaniel Club of SA

The Cocker Spaniel Club of South Australia Incorporated was formed in 1954, when a group of Cocker Spaniel enthusiasts met to discuss the formation of a Specialist Breed Club. Their aim was to promote responsible ownership of the breed and to encourage the exhibition and breeding of pedigreed English Cocker Spaniels. An Open Show was their first Show and in 1955, the first Championship show was held.

The Club celebrated its 25th Championship Show in 1980 with Mr Eugene Phoa (Wintersham Kennels) from Canada judging. In 1990, South Australia hosted the 3rd National Cocker Spaniel Show with Mrs J Caddy (UK) Ouaine Kennels judging. In 1998, Mr R Wyatt (UK) Kendalwood Kennels judged at the 8th National Show hosted by South Australia.

In 2005, the Club celebrated its 50th Annual Championship Show, again with Mr. Eugene Phoa (Wittersham Kennels) from Canada the Judge. In 2008, we were the Host Club for the 13th National Show with Ms J Darby (UK) Classicway Kennels officiating.

In July 2014, the Club held a Championship with Mrs Sue Seller-Rose (USA) to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Club. The Club was unable to form a Committee the following two AGMs so the Club went into recess after the 2015 AGM.

Moves were afoot in 2023 to look at the feasibility of reviving the CSCSA but the process stalled. In March 2024, moves were started again and a keen group of Cocker enthusiasts started the process of reactivating the Club.

In a whirlwind two weeks, a group of Cocker Spaniel enthusiasts met, formed an Interim Committee, created this website, gained the required numbers of South Australian based members and applied for Affiliation with Dogs SA. The process was finalised on March 26th 2024 and The Cocker Spaniel Club of South Australia Inc. was again an Affiliate Club of Dogs SA. The CSCSA Inc was approved to join the  Australian Cocker Spaniel Council at their AGM at the 2024 National Show, May 2024. On 2nd June 2024, Cocker Spaniels were a Feature Breed at the 2024 Dogs SA Winter International. While not a stand alone show, it was the first step towards a Breed Championship which is planned to be held during the 2025 Winter International.
