The Cocker Spaniel – Books on the breed

The books illustrated below are all well worth looking out for if you are interested in finding out more about the Cocker Spaniel. Most are written by some of the most famous names from England  in the development of the Cocker Spaniel, including H. S. Lloyd who won Best in Show at Cruft’s six times with his Cockers. While many of these books are now out of print, copies can be found online or even at your local second hand book shop. Two of these books, both named “The Cocker Spaniel” were written by Australians, both from Victoria. The earlier book by V. A. H. Matthews was first published around 1947 while the second book by Miss C. C. “Viney” Jenkins was published in the 1980s. The Matthews’s book has an excellent chapter on genetics and how it relates to coat colour in Cockers. Both are well worth looking out for.

Reviews of each of these books will be added later.
